Did the Firestone building use to be a movie theater?

The Firestone Tyre Factory on Great West Road in Brentford, London Borough of Hounslow, is an example of Art Deco architecture. Wallis, Gilbert, and Partners designed it for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. Following Hudson-Essex Motors of Great Britain Limited, which opened in 1927, it was the second facility to open on the Great West Road. It was completed in October 1928 on a 26-acre tract of land.

After being purchased by Trafalgar House, the building was completed over the August 1980 bank holiday weekend, ostensibly in preparation for it to be listed.

The Regal Film was built during Mumbai’s film boom of the 1930s, which saw the establishment of the Plaza Central, New Empire, Broadway, Eros, and Metro. The Regal was erected in 1933 by Charles Stevens, the son of notable 19th-century architect F. W. Stevens. The interiors were designed by Karl Schara, a Czech artist who used a lot of mirrors.

The main auditorium was embellished with sunrays in pastel orange and jade green. In contrast to the modern simplicity of both the exteriors, the furnishings were designed to provide the impression of space, airiness, and coolness. The Regal was made completely of reinforced concrete cement (RCC), with a fully air-conditioned interior, and an underground parking garage for visitors.

The elevator from the parking lot was a significant advancement at the time. For the third time, the Filmfare Awards were held at the cinema. It is now a mixed-use building featuring a cinema and retail space on the ground floor.

The major location for the 17th Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), which began on Friday, October 29, 2015, was the Regal Cinema. The Regal Cinema also served as the main site for the 18th Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) in 2016.
