In response to growing concerns over adulterated food and the excessive use of chemical pesticides affecting public health, Gujarat-based farmer-entrepreneur Shailesh Jaria has launched his organic brand “Gir Veggies” in Mumbai. Indian MMA fighter and actor Sangram Singh attended the launch event and was announced as the brand ambassador.
Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Shailesh Jaria highlighted that the rising cases of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, blood pressure, and heart attacks are often linked to contaminated and chemical-laden food. He said that the thought of unknowingly consuming harmful chemicals through everyday fruits and vegetables motivated him to take action.
Shailesh Jaria explained that the idea was to revive traditional farming methods and provide people with chemical-free and healthy food. Under the Gir Veggies brand, organic farming is carried out at “Shaileshbhai Ni Wadi” farm located in Amrapur Gir village of Junagadh district in Gujarat.
The farm produces more than 30 varieties of fruits and over 50 varieties of vegetables, including mangoes, guavas, bananas, papayas, pomegranates, and jamun. In addition, grains such as wheat, millet, maize, chickpeas, and pigeon pea (tur dal) are also cultivated. The initiative aims to deliver these products directly from the farm to consumers.
Appreciating the initiative, Sangram Singh said that modern urban lifestyles have distanced people from natural and pure food. He recalled that during childhood, people often plucked fruits directly from trees and enjoyed naturally grown produce, an experience that has largely disappeared in city life.
“When Shailesh Jaria shared his idea of organic farming and delivering fresh fruits and vegetables directly from farms to people’s homes, I found it extremely positive,” Sangram Singh said. He added that he personally tasted fruits grown on the farm and found them to be of excellent quality.
It is noteworthy that Sangram Singh will also compete in an international MMA bout on April 5, 2026, in Argentina under the Samurai Fight League, where he will face an opponent from France.
Initially, Gir Veggies will provide home delivery of organic fruits and vegetables twice a week in Mumbai’s Kandivali, Borivali, Dahisar, and Malad areas. The initiative aims to establish a direct connection between farmers and consumers while providing fresh, chemical-free food products.
