Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit Nene has married Dr. Shriram Nene who was born in London and reared in the United States, the son of Indian immigrants who left India in 1962. He was educated in the United States and had an early interest in science and technology, inspired by classical renaissance intellectuals and inventors such as Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Edison, Franklin, Tesla, and Einstein, who were able to wear many hats and do them well.
Dr. Nene was 13 when he self-taught himself how to program on an Apple IIe in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when Apple and Microsoft were nascent start-ups and computers were only entering homes. By the age of 15, he had used these talents to start a computer software company that produced applications for real estate brokers and educational reasons. At the same time, as president of the school’s computer science club, he was teaching other students how to program.
He was rewarded for his efforts with scholarships from Rockwell International, Washington University Scholars Program in Medicine, Fluor Daniels Engineering, and the University of California Berkeley, as well as an award for business entrepreneurship from the Independent Press-Telegram, presented by Ray Bradbury.
Dr. Nene is currently working on a medical platform called ‘Pathfinder Health Sciences,’ which aims to improve people’s lives and extend their lives through precise, individualized health techniques that combine media, applications, wearable technologies, and smart services marketplace. He’s also been a key player in the healthcare innovation field, serving as the chief medical officer (and a seed investor) at GOQii, a well-known wellness firm. He is also an active sports fan who believes in staying fit and participates in tennis, cross-country running, and was a varsity athlete in high school.
