Shirish Kunder’s second directorial endeavor after Jaan-E-Mann is the 2012 Indian Hindi-language science fiction comedy film, Joker. Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha play key roles in the film. After Rowdy Rathore, this was Sinha’s second collaboration with Kumar (2012). The film was released in theatres worldwide on August 31, 2012, to mixed to poor reviews.
At the box office, the picture was declared a ‘Disaster.’ The film’s trailer was released on July 11, 2012, and it was also released in theatres alongside Cocktail.
Agastya (Kumar), a scientist working on “the world’s most advanced radio” to contact aliens, is urgently summoned from America to his desi hamlet in Joker. Agastya returns to his roots with girlfriend Diva (Sinha) in Paglapur, a swampy village that belongs to no Indian state because the British officer who mapped it fled when the nation’s largest insane asylum broke into the place.
As a result, Paglapur was settled by the insane and their descendants, who were self-sufficient until a dam was built, cutting off the water supply, which is why Agastya is summoned by his desperate desis, including his gobbledygook-speaking brother Babban (Talpade), his cross-eyed father, and the red-coated progeny of an English lunatic known as ‘Lord Falkland.’
