Genius is a Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Anil Sharma that was released in 2018. Utkarsh Sharma, who also appeared as a child actor in Sharma’s 2001 movies Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Ishita Chauhan, makes his acting debut. The film also has veteran actress Ayesha Jhulka, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mithun Chakraborty, and Malti Chahar in minor roles. The movie received a lot of negative feedback.
Himesh Reshammiya composed the film’s music, which includes ‘Tera Fitoor’ and ‘Dil Meri Na Sune,” two of 2018’s most popular songs, and Monty Sharma composed the background score, with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir, Kumaar, and Shabbir Ahmed.
The plot shifts from a missing guns case to an international spy mission, and it’s all shot in Lakshwadeep and Mauritius, which isn’t exactly enticing. The National Flag is trivialized for crazy stunts, as is customary in such flicks, and words like “For us patriots, there’s just sanskaar, woh bhi antim” are heard. The film makes a poor attempt to investigate digital terrorism and cyberattacks, but the blinking HUDs and CGI bomb blasts leave you cringing.
Mithun Chakraborty, who plays an NSA leader and MRS’s worst adversary, is accompanied by Ayesha Jhulka, who appears continually regretful about signing the film. As the plot thickens and additional agents are discovered dead, a dramatic TV anchor asks rhetorically, “Yeh hatya hai, ya aatma-hatya?” (Is it murder or suicide?) Are we ever going to find out?
