Bad Boys for Life is a sequel to Bad Boys II (2003) and the third installment in the Bad Boys franchise, which was released in 2020. The film was helmed by Adil and Bilall and written jointly by Chris Bremner, Peter Craig, and Joe Carnahan, Will Smith, and Martin Lawrence reprise their leading roles.
Smith, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Doug Belgrad produced the film. On January 17, 2020, Sony Pictures Releasing distributed Bad Boys for Life in theatres in the United States under the Columbia Pictures label. The film earned generally positive reviews from critics, becoming the series’ best-reviewed installment. It was the greatest January release of all time, collecting $426.5 million globally, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of 2020. It is the highest-grossing film in the Bad Boys franchise as well as the highest-grossing film of the year.
On January 14, 2019, principal photography in Atlanta began. In April 2019, filming took place in Mexico City and Miami, with the latter finishing on June 7, 2019. Following the success of the film’s opening weekend box office, Sony confirmed plans for a fourth chapter, with Chris Bremner returning to compose the script.
