BTS, the Korean boy band that conquered the world in 2017 and continues to do so, may need to take a vacation at some point. With the group’s oldest member Jin approaching 30 and conscription, millions of fans around the world wonder what the group would be like in six years.
After debuting in 2013, BTS broke the seven-year K-pop curse, albeit with much difficulty. In 2018, the group extended its contract for another seven years. BTS’ contract will be renewed until 2027, after which it will be on an uncertain path.
A seven-member boy band from Seoul, South Korea, rose from the ashes to become the most successful K-pop group of all time. BTS continues to flourish, gaining new followers and dominating key charts and awards daily.
However, as Jin’s enrollment approaches and the (largely unspoken) fear of the group disbanding grows, worries regarding the group’s future continue to arise. Surviving the first seven years of the curse is extraordinarily fortunate, but after that, things usually go sour. That may not be the case with BTS, whose popularity seems to be increasing by the day.
With the initial renewal, the band accomplished accomplishments no one could have predicted, including partnerships with the biggest Western performers and Grammy nominations.
Jin, the eldest, admitted during MAMA 2018 that the group was on the verge of disbanding owing to mental difficulties. The members, on the other hand, continued to work together and achieved heights that no other K-pop artist or group had ever achieved.
Six years is a long period, therefore the members may decide whether or not to renew their contract to focus on living a more quiet life. Jungkook, the youngest member, will reach 30 years old by 2027. The other members could be in their early thirties. Fans question if BTS members would ever consider settling down with their romances or starting a family after 14 years of fast-paced, 24×7 in front of the camera.
Fortunately, the path to idols having children or marrying is being paved in a more positive light, and future groups may not be subjected to as much criticism.
