Variety first broke the news that The Selection would be coming to Netflix in April 2020. Along with the announcement, Kiera Cass provided some personal opinions about the adaptation on her blog in April 2020.
Other than “things look fantastic!” she didn’t have much to say. “Do I know anything about casting?” Kiera also preemptively answered several fan inquiries, saying, “Do I know anything about casting?” No! Do I have any clue when the movie will be released? “No!” she said, then added, “Am I overly excited?” YES!”.
Haifaa Al-Mansour, a Saudi-Arabian director best known for Wadjda but also participating in two Netflix projects, including Nappily Ever After and directing on The Society, is one of the important players in the project (sadly canceled).
Katie Lovejoy, who is arguably best known for her work on another Netflix romance film, To All The Boys 2, is the film’s writer. Denise Di Novi, Alison Greenspan, and Pouya Shahbazian are among the film’s producers. David Andrew MacMillan, a sound technician, has also been assigned to the project.
