Talking about choosing Bittu, Indian woman in joint shared statement, Bittu A simple yet an incredibly impressive story. We continued to resonate with the story presented by the female creators, in which Karisma Dev Dubey, Shreya Dubey and Mary Evangelista came together as a team. With ‘Indian Women’s Rising’, we aim to be able to provide the necessary stories to force the potential to achieve higher goals, Bittu With its sophisticated storytelling and impeccable presentation seemed the ideal choice for our first project and we plan to shine the spotlight in the film as it joins the run for the Oscar in the Best Live Action Short category. “
Director Karisma Dev Dubey shared, “Bittu Some aspects of my life in Dehradun’s boarding school stemmed from — and sometimes my most formal friendship with — my difficult relationship with the Authority. Though at its core, the film is a re-imagining of the infamous 2013 school poisoning in Bihar, through the eyes of Bittu, a fierce and brilliantly dishonest eight-year-old girl. The film explores less why and how poison, instead it attempts to bring an otherwise forgotten community to life in the foothills of the Himalayas. We have had an incredible journey with Bittu, we were awarded the Student Academy Award last year and continue to explore the new world with our proud partnership with IWR — a must in India. “
