Sinister 2 is a supernatural horror film directed by Ciarán Foy and written by Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill that was released in 2015 in the United States.

It’s a follow-up to the 2012 thriller Sinister, and it stars James Ransone, who reprises his character from the first film, and Shannyn Sossamon as a mother whose sons are tormented by Bughuul’s ghostly children abducted from their rural farmhouse. In supporting roles, Robert Daniel Sloan, Dartanian Sloan, Lea Coco, and Tate Ellington appear.

Gramercy Pictures and Focus Features released Sinister 2 in the United States on August 21, 2015. The film was widely derided by critics, who criticized it for its jump scares, horror cliches, and narrative, however, Ransone’s performance was praised. Despite a stated budget of $10 million, the film grossed more than $54 million.

Sinister 2

Unlike the first picture, which featured 8 mm home videos and snuff flicks, Sinister 2 featured 16 mm film, vinyl records, and ham radio broadcasts in its storyline.

A similar sequence in the 1977 Nazi exploitation film La Bestia in calorie inspired the scene in which imprisoned rats must eat through a victim’s body. In March 2013, it was announced that a sequel to Sinister was in the works, with Scott Derrickson in talks to co-write the script with C. Robert Cargill, but not to direct, as he did with the first picture. Ciarán Foy would direct the film, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Charles Layton, Xavier Marchand, and Patrice Théroux would executive produce the sequel with eOne Entertainment, it was revealed on April 17, 2014.
