S. Shankar wrote and directed Enthiran nicknamed Robot, a 2010 Tamil-language science fiction action film. It’s the first installment of the Enthiran series. Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appear in the film, which also has Danny Denzongpa, Santhanam, and Karunas in supporting parts.

A. R. Rahman composed the soundtrack album and background score, while Madhan Karky, R. Rathnavelu, Anthony, and Sabu Cyril handled the dialogues, cinematography, editing, and art direction, respectively.

After Chitti’s software is improved to give it the ability to perceive and express human emotions, a scientist named K. Vaseegaran (Rajinikanth) struggles to control his humanoid robot named Chitti (also Rajinikanth). When Chitti falls in love with Vaseegaran’s girlfriend, Sana (Rai), and is pushed into becoming homicidal by Bohra (Denzongpa), a competing scientist, the study backfires.

The film’s primary photography began in 2008 and lasted two years after being stuck in development for over a decade. Legacy Effects company (which was responsible for the film’s prosthetic make-up and animatronics) made their Indian film debut with this picture. Enthiran and its dubbed counterparts, Robot in Hindi and Robo in Telugu, were released internationally on October 1, 2010. It was India’s most expensive film up to that date, produced by Kalanithi Maran.
