According to Klook, Money Heist was shot in a variety of locales, including Spain, Panama, Italy, Thailand, and more. The Spanish National Research Council served as the inspiration for the Royal Mint of Spain. Filming is strictly prohibited at the Royal Mint. The exteriors of the Spanish National Research Council are comparable to those of the Royal Mint, making it an ideal shooting location. Interiors for The Royal Mind were photographed in a studio in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid.
The printing facility for the Royal Mint was at the ABC Printing Site in Torrejon de Ardoz. ABC’s printing department is outfitted with massive, heavy-duty equipment. It was used in the most dramatic moments of the series for money printing workshops and the manufacturing of billions of euros.
The heist was staged within the series at La Casa de Toledo, a rented venue where wedding feasts are sometimes held. It’s a Spanish home with 11 bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a kitchen. It is surrounded by a garden.
Some of the sequences when the audience may see millions of euros falling from the sky were taped in Madrid’s Callao Square. Callao Square was also used to film the scenes in which the Professor uses enormous displays to convey announcements. The outside of the Ministerio de Fomento buildings inspired the design of the Bank of Spain. Inside a Netflix studio in Madrid’s Tres Cantos neighborhood, the interior shots were taken.
