    How is the movie, Shallow Hal?

    Shallow Hal, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jack Black, is a 2001 American comedy movie about a shallow man who falls in love with a 300-pound lady because of her inner beauty. It was shot in and around Charlotte, as well as Sterling and Princeton, Massachusetts, at Wachusett Mountain, and directed by the Farrelly brothers.

    Jason Alexander, Joe Viterelli, and Susan Ward make up the supporting cast. Shallow Hal was released in theatres on November 9, 2001, and grossed $141 million against a $40 million budget for 20th Century Fox. 20th Century Fox announced on December 18, 2021, that pre-production for Shallow Hal 2: The Deep End would commence in 2022.

    Paltrow was in talks to feature in the movie in December 1999. Before Jason Alexander was cast, the Farrelly brothers sought unsuccessfully to cast Gary Shandling as Mauricio. Production was accelerated to finish the film before the threatened Screen Actors Guild strike on July 1st. Charlotte, North Carolina was the location for filming.

    Shallow Hal earned $22.5 million in its first weekend in the United States, placing it second behind Monsters, Inc. It made a total of $141.1 million in revenue, with $70.7 million coming from the United States. The film was nominated for Choice Movie: Comedy at the 2002 Teen Choice Awards, while its protagonists were nominated for Choice Movie: Comedy Actor (Jack Black) and Choice Movie: Comedy Actress (Gwyneth Paltrow).
