Runner Runner is a 2013 American crime thriller film directed by Brad Furman and starring Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck, Gemma Arterton, and Anthony Mackie. It was written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien and produced by Brad Furman.
The film received mostly poor reviews from reviewers and grossed $62 million in the United States when it was released on October 4, 2013.
The majority of the filming took place in Puerto Rico and on the Princeton University campus from the summer until the winter of 2012. Although the film contains multiple vivid hints that all of the events take place in Costa Rica, none of the sequences were shot there.
The film came in third place with $7.8 million in its opening weekend, behind Gravity and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. It earned $19.3 million in North America and $43.4 million elsewhere, for a total of $62.7 million worldwide.
Richie Furst, a Princeton student, is having financial difficulties. He starts by assisting other students who wish to bet for a fee online. When the Dean learns of this, he orders him to stop or face the consequences. After that, he gambles online and loses, but he believes he was duped.
So he travels to Costa Rica, the site’s birthplace, and presents the owner, Ivan Block, proof that he was duped. Block then extends to him an offer of employment, which he accepts. He believes he’s made it until he learns how Block conducts business. And an FBI agent who wants to catch Block warns Richie that if he doesn’t help him, he will be arrested. As a result, Richie looks for a way out.
