The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) recently decided that none of their 32 unions will work with director Ram Gopal Varma in future. The director has been accused of not paying nearly Rs 1.25 crore to actors, technicians and workers associated with the film industry.
According to FWICE President BN Tiwari, General Secretary, Ashok Dubey, and Gangeshwar Lal Srivastava (Sanju), Treasurer, Ram Gopal Varma, a legal notice was already received. However, Ram Gopal Varma did not respond to the notice nor did he approve the outstanding amount.
Ramu received a letter from FWICE on September 17, 2020 detailing the technicians and their pending payments, which needed to be cleared by the RGV. Even before this notice FWICE wrote several letters to RGV stating that it would approve the dues, however, RGV refused to accept the delivery of the letters.
FWICE recently discovered that Ram Gopal Varma was shooting in Goa for one of his projects, amidst the novel coronovirus epidemic. BN Tiwari said, ‘We had also sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Goa on 10 September 2020 regarding this. We wanted Ram Gopal Varma to clear the dues of poor technicians, artists and workers, but he never did so. Therefore, we have decided not to work with him in the future. We have also informed the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) and the Producers Guild of India (GUILD), among other unions.
