Drishyam: The Conclusion opens at Rs 62.03 crore

Ajay Devgn has a new first-day benchmark. Drishyam: The Conclusion opened at Rs 62.03 crore on the Gandhi Jayanti holiday, the biggest opening of his 25-plus-year career and one of the Top 5 opening days for a Hindi film.

The number matters because it cleared the range trade analysts had set. Rediff.com reports that the Abhishek Pathak-directed thriller was expected to open between Rs 40 crore and Rs 50 crore. Instead, it collected Rs 62 crore on Friday, a sign that the sequel became an event film rather than a routine franchise release.

Ajay Devgn’s biggest first days

The ranking, as compiled by Rediff.com from trade sources:

  • Drishyam: The Conclusion (2026) — Rs 62.03 crore
  • Singham Again (2024) — Rs 43.70 crore
  • Singham Returns (2014) — Rs 32.09 crore
  • Golmaal Again (2017) — Rs 30.14 crore
  • Raid 2 (2025) — Rs 19.71 crore
  • Total Dhamaal (2019) — Rs 16.50 crore
  • Drishyam 2 (2022) — Rs 15.38 crore
  • Shaitaan (2024) — Rs 15.21 crore
  • Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020) — Rs 15.10 crore
  • Dhamaal 4 (2026) — Rs 13.72 crore

The list makes a pattern visible: most of his biggest openers are franchise titles. Singham Again, Singham Returns and Golmaal Again arrived with built-in audience familiarity.

Why this record matters for exhibitors

For distributors, Ajay Devgn’s consistency is the point. Even his lower first-day numbers have usually stayed in double digits, making him a reliable bet. Drishyam: The Conclusion is a different scale: it is the first time one of his films has crossed the Rs 60 crore mark on opening day.

The groundwork came from Drishyam 2. That 2022 release opened at Rs 15.38 crore and eventually collected about Rs 240 crore, helping build demand for this third film. Drishyam: The Conclusion opened more than four times higher than its predecessor’s first day.

The real test is the full run

A big opening does not guarantee a big lifetime. Singham Again opened at Rs 43.70 crore at Diwali 2024 despite a clash with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, but it did not cover the distance. Smaller openers such as Shaitaan and Tanhaji multiplied several times over because of audience word-of-mouth.

That is the next frame for Drishyam: The Conclusion. The holiday opening gives it momentum; sustaining through the following weekdays will decide whether it becomes a true blockbuster. For now, the record is unambiguous: this is Ajay Devgn’s biggest start, and one of the biggest in Hindi cinema.
