Milestone and a slowdown
Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3: The Conclusion has crossed the Rs 335 crore mark in India by its fifteenth day, but the milestone came with the clearest sign yet that its run is cooling. On its third Friday, the film collected Rs 2.52 crore, the lowest single-day figure since its October 2 release.
The slowdown follows the release of Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, which has drawn audience attention away from the thriller. After two weeks of strong returns, Drishyam 3 is now being tested on its holding power rather than its opening strength.
The numbers so far
The collection has arrived in distinct phases:
- Advance bookings: Rs 27 crore before the theatrical release
- Opening day: Rs 66.75 crore net across India
- First week: Rs 245.50 crore
- Second week: Rs 87.50 crore
- Day 15: Rs 2.52 crore, taking the total past Rs 335 crore
The opening itself set a benchmark: the biggest first-day number of Devgn’s career and the third-biggest opening ever for a Hindi film. By day 9 the picture had crossed Rs 285 crore and become his highest-grossing release, which shows how much of the total was front-loaded.
Why the third Friday matters
For a franchise built on the slow burn of Vijay Salgaonkar’s cover-up, the hold matters as much as the launch. A film that keeps drawing audiences into week three can convert a big opening into a long lifetime; a sharp drop to its lowest day suggests the market has turned its attention to a larger rival.
News18 Showsha’s review described the film as “gripping and fast-paced,” while also saying it sticks closely to the familiar Drishyam formula. That positioning helps explain the current pattern: the opening was massive, but the film is now competing for the same franchise audience it has served for two films.
The franchise question
Drishyam 3: The Conclusion is not a direct remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam Drishyam 3. The Hindi version carries its own storyline for Vijay Salgaonkar, with Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Jaideep Ahlawat, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Prakash Raj, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav among the cast. That distinction matters because the title is being sold as an original conclusion, even as the box office begins to slow.
The next few days will show whether the third weekend can stabilise. If it does not, Drishyam 3 will still be a record-setting performer for Devgn, but the conversation will shift from how big it opened to how much of that momentum it retained.
