Karan Johar, or fondly known as KJo, is a Hindi film director, producer, screenwriter, costume designer, television personality, and actor. He was born Rahul Kumar Johar on 25 May 1972. He made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy-drama Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Director and the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay. He is the son of producer Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. He won his second Filmfare Award for Best Director for his social drama My Name Is Khan (2010). He was awarded the Padma Shri award, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, in 2020.
“Everyone knows what my sexual orientation is,” Johar replied when asked about his sexual orientation. Johar became the father of twins (a boy and a girl) through surrogacy in February 2017. The twins were born in Mumbai’s Masrani Hospital. Johar named his son Yash after his father and his daughter Roohi. As he is a surrogate father he is unmarried.
Johar has also dabbled with other aspects of the entertainment sector with success. He presents Koffee with Karan, a television chat show, and What the Love!, a dating show. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, India’s Got Talent, and India’s Next Superstars, as well as a radio show called Calling Karan, and as a judge on competition reality shows Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, India’s Got Talent and India’s Next Superstars.
