Vijay Deverakonda explained in a recent interview why he is unable to speak out about a script’s shortcomings like Starkids in the industry. He discussed the difficulties of being an outsider.
One of the most gifted actors of the new Tollywood generation, Vijay Deverakonda, recently discussed the challenges he faces as an outsider in the industry. He revealed why he frequently feels unable to voice his disapproval of bad scripts in an open interview with Anupama Chopra for The Hollywood Reporter, pointing to his lack of industry connections. The Arjun Reddy actor highlighted the realities of negotiating a competitive industry by saying, “I don’t have the privilege to tell a director that I’m not impressed with a flawed script, since I don’t have any backing or industry support.”
Vijay refers to a famous child who has the freedom to call out errors in a script and insist on revisions.
Vijay Deverakonda pointed out his limitations, in contrast to actors from wealthy families. “I know another actor whose father is influential,” he said, referring to another performer who gains from having a powerful father. He can say, “This is not good,” and even persuade writers to revise the script because of his father. Early in his career, Vijay was unable to enjoy such freedom. He added, considering the pressure to accept roles to remain relevant, “I didn’t have the luxury to say no or take a day or two to think about a script.”
Vijay speaks about what it’s like to be an Outsider in the Film Business
Breakout films like Pelli Choopulu and Arjun Reddy marked the beginning of Vijay’s career and brought him a devoted following. But he had to be careful because he was an outsider. “You’re cautious when you don’t have support.” He clarified, “You don’t know when the next opportunity will come, so you take what comes your way.” His early career decisions were influenced by this mindset, as he placed more importance on remaining involved in the industry than on choosing scripts carefully.
Vijay now feels confident enough to express his concerns.
Vijay has become more comfortable expressing his thoughts over time. “I’ve learnt to tell filmmakers the truth now. “I respectfully say if something doesn’t work for me,” he said.
