Flight Attendant Neerja Bhanot’s brother Aneesh Bhanot took his last breath on Saturday. Actress Sonam Kapoor who played the role of Neerja in the biopic, recently took to her Instagram and penned an heartfelt note.
Sharing a picture of herself and Aneesh Bahnot, she wrote, ‘Om Shanti. Rest in peace Aneesh Bhanot. Thank you for everything. #neerja #neerjabhanot’.

Aneesh Bhanot was known as a philanthropist and authored books on his sister’s life, including ‘Neerja Bhanot- The smile of courage’ and ‘The Neerja I Knew’. Aneesh survived by a son, brother Akhil and other family members.
According to the recent reports, a family member revealed that Aneesh was on his way back home from a walk when he collapsed at the entrance gate. He suffered from heart ailments.
Fight attendant Neerja Bhanot hadsacrificed her life while saving passengers from terrorists on board a hijacked flight to Karachi, Pakistan. She was only 22 when she breathed her last in 1986. Neerja’s bravery had inspired the 2016 biopic ‘Neerja’, wherein Sonam played the lead role of the Neerja.
Beside Sonam Kapoor, the film ‘Neerja’ also starrer Shabana Azmi, Jim Sarbh, Shekhar Ravjiani and Yogendra Tiku in the pivotal roles. The film narrated the real story of Neerja, an Indian fight attendant for the airline pan American World Airways who gave her life saving the lives of 360 passengers on Pan Am Flight 73, which was hijacked by terrorists during a stopover in Karachi, Pakistan on September 5,1986.
