India’s official entry to Oscars 2022 in the Best International Feature Film category is being planned. A total of 14 films were shortlisted by jury members in Kolkata. According to the process, the final one will be selected later.
Two Bollywood films, Vidya Balan‘s Sherni and Vicky Kaushal’s Sardar Udham were selected as official entries for the 94th Academy Awards. Both the films are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Directed by Amit Masurkar, Sherni features Vidya’s journey as a forest officer. The actress is trying to resolve man-animal conflicts. The film is set in a world of strange yet relatable characters. The film’s plot steers through her marriage amidst an unusual job.
The film “Sherni” also has Sharad Saxena, Mukul Chaddha, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, Brijendra Kala and Neeraj Kabi in key roles.
Shoojit Sircar’s directorial ‘Sardar Udham Singh’ is based on the life of a revolutionary person. The role of Sardar Udham Singh is played by Vicky Kaushal. The film’s plot focuses on the shooting of Michael O’Dwyer. Dwyer was the lieutenant governor of Punjab at the time of the Jallianwala Bagh incident in 1919.
Sardar Udham also features Shaun Scott, Stephen Hogan, Banita Sandhu, Kirsty Averton, and Amol Parashar in important roles. It premiered on Amazon Prime Video on October 16.
Both the movies have impressed the critics and audiences. Vidya Balan and Vicky Kaushal have been applauded for the portrayal of their respective roles.
Speaking about the 94th Academy Awards, the ceremony will honor the best films released since March 1, 2021. The Oscars 2020 Awards ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California on March 27, 2022.
This will be the first time since 2018 that the ceremony will be held in the month of March. This is being scheduled in order to avoid clash with Winter Olympics.
