Sriram Raghavan and Arijit Biswas wrote the script for Agent Vinod, a 2012 Indian Hindi-language action spy film directed by Sriram Raghavan. The film stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor and is based on the 1977 film of the same name. Pritam wrote the soundtrack for the film.

Former RAW Chief Reel Agent Vinod is the polar opposite of a real RAW agent. A good movie can be a great way to get away from reality. Fair as Agent Vinod was for Amarjit Singh Dulat, past chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India.

Iram Parveen Bilal, a Pakistani filmmaker whom director Sriram Raghavan met in 2008 at the Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles, provided the basis for Kareena’s character name.

On March 23, 2012, the film was released. The film was banned by Pakistan’s Central Board of Film Censors just days before its release due to several controversial orientations to Pakistan’s espionage agency Inter-Services Intelligence.

The bulk of Indian audiences praised Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s performances, and the film presently has an average 5.2 rating on IMDb. Agent Vinod made Rupees 368 million (US$5.2 million) in its first week and Rupees 546 million (equivalent to Rupees 830 million or US$12 million in 2019) during its run. But at the box office, the film was a flop.
