How is the film 3 Idiots?

Rajkumar Hirani wrote, edited, and directed 3 Idiots, a 2009 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age comedy-drama film co-written by Abhijat Joshi, with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra working as a script associate.

The film stars Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi in the title roles, marking their return three years after the 2006 film Rang De Basanti, and Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, and Omi Vaidya in crucial roles. It is partially based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone.

The plot chronicles the friendship of three students at an Indian engineering college and is a parody of the societal pressures that exist in the Indian education system. It is told in two parallel dramas, one set in the present and the other ten years ago.

3 Idiots, directed by Chopra and produced under his banner Vinod Chopra Films, featured actual Indian innovations by Remya Jose, Mohammad Idris, Jahangir Painter, and Sonam Wangchuk, the latter of whom also inspired Khan’s character.

The film was a critically acclaimed and commercial success upon its release on December 25, 2009; it was also the highest-grossing film in India during its opening weekend, had the highest opening day collections for an Indian film up to that point, and held the record for the highest net collections in a Hindi film’s first week.

It finally became one of the few Indian films to be popular in East Asian countries such as China and Japan, grossing $3.9 billion ($90 million) globally, making it the best-grossing Indian film ever at the time and the biggest grossing Indian film of the 2000s. The film has a significant impact on Indian attitudes toward education, as well as attitudes toward education in other Asian countries like China.

3 Idiots received six Filmfare Awards, including Best Film and Best Popular Film, as well as three National Film Awards. It was nominated for Best Outstanding Foreign Language Film at the Japan Academy Awards and Best Foreign Film at the Beijing International Film Festival in China. It also won the Grand Prize at the Videoyasan Awards in Japan.
