“Women have been bought and sold as sex slaves in the past, and what happened to Lavani only represents the truth”, Apeksha Porwal opens up about embracing risk with a bold role in Slave Market

Apeksha Porwal delves into the intricacies of taking on a bold and challenging role in the Middle Eastern drama “Slave Market,” where she portrays the character of Lavani, a victim of sex slavery. Apeksha shares her perspective on risk-taking in the industry and why she was drawn to such a daring character.

“The moment I read the character of Lavani, I fell in love with it, and with that, I fell in love with all aspects of her. For me, the more challenging it is to play a character, the more interesting it is. Women have been bought and sold as sex slaves in the past, and what happened to Lavani only represents the truth,” Apeksha expressed.

She further emphasized the responsibility actors carry in shedding light on real-world issues through their portrayals on screen. “Also, cinema gives an actor the liberty to explore a range of emotions, and those risks and extremes are interesting for me to play,” she added, shedding light on cinema as a medium that allows actors to delve into the depths of human emotions, challenging themselves with roles that carry societal weight and historical significance.

Slave Market is currently streaming on the Shahid OTT, and Apeksha portrays the role of Lavani, a courageous princess who defies societal norms and fights for her freedom. Lavani showcases her dedication to bringing marginalized stories to the forefront and sparking conversations about social justice and equality.
