Aamir Khan is 60. Genelia Deshmukh is 37. And yet, in their upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, they’re playing husband and wife. Surprising? Maybe. Controversial? Not for Aamir Khan, who recently addressed the age-gap chatter with his trademark wit and clarity.
Speaking to Indian Express, the actor acknowledged the buzz, especially because Genelia starred opposite his nephew Imran Khan in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na back in 2008. “Ya, I know,” he chuckled, “But that was a long time ago. And ab Imran bhi kaafi meri age ka ho gaya hai!”
Aamir explained that both he and Genelia are playing characters in their early 40s, and that age on screen today is flexible—thanks to makeup, technology, and the evolving sensibilities of modern audiences. “We’ve got VFX now. Earlier, if I had to play 18, I’d need prosthetics,” he added, also referencing Anil Kapoor’s age-defying performance in Eeshwar (1989).
As a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par promises emotional depth and unexpected storytelling. With Aamir and Genelia in fresh roles, and the theme of learning differences reportedly taking center stage, this June 20 release could offer something both nostalgic and new.
