Ayesha Takia: The Wanted Star Who Left at Her Peak

Before she faded from view, Ayesha Takia built a career on Taarzan, Dor and Wanted, married at 22 and left at her peak.

Ayesha Takia: The Wanted Star Who Left at Her Peak

In 2009, Ayesha Takia had a blockbuster in Wanted with Salman Khan and a new marriage to restaurateur Farhan Azmi. She chose the marriage. The film ran, but she was already stepping back. That arc—success followed by a deliberate exit—is why her name still surfaces in Hindi cinema memory.

The early years

Ayesha entered entertainment before her film debut. As a teenager she appeared with Shahid Kapoor in the Complan campaign, and at 15 she was seen in Falguni Pathak’s music video Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye. Another music video, Shake It Daddy, followed before film offers arrived.

Her Bollywood debut came in 2004 with Taarzan: The Wonder Car, opposite Vatsal Sheth. The film won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She had also signed Socha Na Tha, but delays made Taarzan her first release.

The roles that mattered

Her next films moved beyond conventional commercial parts. In Imtiaz Ali’s Socha Na Tha (2005) she starred opposite Abhay Deol. In 2006’s Dor she played Meera, a young Rajasthani woman whose life changes after another woman’s tragedy. Wanted (2009), directed by Prabhu Deva and starring Salman Khan, became her biggest commercial hit.

  • 2004: Debut in Taarzan: The Wonder Car and a Filmfare Best Female Debut win.
  • 2006: The defining role of Meera in Dor.
  • 2009: Wedding to Farhan Azmi and the blockbuster Wanted.
  • 2011-12: Brief return with Mod and Sur Kshetra.
  • 2013: Son Mikail born.
  • 2017: Viral trolling over changed appearance; surgery denied.

Why the story still circulates

Takia’s exit complicates the usual comeback narrative. She did not leave after a string of flops; she left after her biggest hit. That makes her a reference point in conversations about young women actors, marriage and career windows. When she reappeared in 2017 looking noticeably different, online users compared old and new photographs and speculated about Botox, fillers or surgery. She denied plastic surgery, said some viral photographs had been morphed or distorted, and later said she laughed the episode off.

The trolling was a reminder of how quickly public memory can shift from a filmography to an appearance. Her actual record—Dor, Socha Na Tha, Wanted—was overshadowed by a debate about images she called altered.

The quiet after

Ayesha largely stayed away from acting after 2012. She had a son, Mikail, in 2013, supported animal-welfare and wildlife causes, and has spoken about her interest in business. Her Instagram account is stripped down to one carousel, a small sign of how deliberately she has kept a distance from the spotlight.
