Can Ramayana Return Yash to ₹1,215 Cr Territory?

Ramayana Part 1 opens Nov 5 with Yash as Ravana. We measure it against KGF 2's ₹1,215 cr record and Karnataka's shifted benchmark.

Can Ramayana Return Yash to ₹1,215 Cr Territory?

Ramayana Part 1 opens on November 5, and the first question around Yash is not whether the film will be visible—it is whether his Ravana can unlock numbers from his own past. Nitesh Tiwari directs; Ranbir Kapoor plays Ram, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Sunny Deol plays Hanuman, and Yash co-produces through Monster Mind Creations. Sacnilk’s early tracking points to an India net opening in the region of ₹70 crore, and the Diwali-week window adds to the launch’s scale.

Three films define the benchmark

Yash’s recorded box-office story rests on three releases. KGF Chapter 1 made him a national name; KGF Chapter 2 made him the face of the first Kannada film past ₹1,000 crore worldwide; Toxic opened big and then slowed sharply. The second film still casts the longest shadow.

  • KGF Chapter 2: ₹100 crore budget; worldwide gross more than twelve times its cost.
  • KGF Chapter 2 worldwide total: ₹1,215 crore—Yash’s only entry in the ₹1,000 crore club.
  • Toxic overseas: ₹43.75 crore—under one-third of KGF 2’s overseas figure.

Karnataka’s record has already moved

In Yash’s strongest home market, the lifetime benchmark no longer belongs to him. KGF Chapter 2 earned ₹182.96 crore gross in Karnataka, but Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 reached ₹247.48 crore, a gap of ₹64.52 crore. KGF 2 benefited from Rocky’s familiarity as a Kannada hero, while Kantara rode a deep local identification built by its predecessor. Ramayana is a Hindi-language production led by Ranbir Kapoor, and its early advance-booking activity has been driven largely by Hindi screenings. Matching the Karnataka openings of KGF 2 or Kantara would require a regional-language response that is not yet evident.

Overseas is the more plausible climb

KGF Chapter 2’s ₹214.15 crore remains the highest overseas gross for a Kannada film, ahead of Kantara Chapter 1’s ₹111 crore and Toxic’s ₹43.75 crore. International markets contributed 17.6% of KGF 2’s worldwide collection, so Ramayana does not have to reproduce the entire global run to approach the mark. Sony Pictures is handling international distribution. According to Venky Box Office’s October 27 update, USA premieres had sold 28,638 tickets worth $631,747 across 1,820 shows at 641 locations. Sustained word of mouth could make KGF 2’s overseas lifetime reachable.

The realistic first test

A ₹1,000.85 crore India gross would mean a run on the scale of Dhurandhar—an exceptional outcome for a first part. Passing Toxic is a more grounded opening benchmark. A second ₹1,000 crore worldwide entry is possible, but this time Yash is part of a large ensemble rather than the solo draw. The familiar mythology, cast and multilingual release provide a foundation; momentum has to be built by the first instalment, not carried over from a franchise.
