Udta Teer, the Ayushmann Khurrana-Sara Ali Khan spy comedy, has crossed ₹38.53 crore in global gross after five days in cinemas. The film added ₹3.10 crore net in India on Tuesday across 5,854 shows, a 3.1% dip from Monday, according to Sacnilk figures cited by Business Standard.
That takes the Indian net total to ₹25.85 crore and the domestic gross to ₹30.78 crore. With ₹1 crore from overseas on Tuesday, the overseas gross stands at ₹7.75 crore, leaving the worldwide cume at ₹38.53 crore.
The day-wise picture
The film’s first five days show a familiar bell curve:
- Day 1: ₹4.10 crore net in India
- Day 2: ₹7.25 crore
- Day 3: ₹8.20 crore
- Day 4: ₹3.20 crore
- Day 5: ₹3.10 crore
The opening weekend total was ₹19.55 crore, leaving only ₹6.30 crore net across Monday and Tuesday. In audience terms, Tuesday’s estimated ticket sales were 2,55,953, taking five-day attendance past 13.01 lakh. Overall occupancy was around 20%, with evening shows outperforming matinees.
Why the Tuesday number matters
For a title in the spy-comedy space, the first Tuesday is often the clearest test of word of mouth. Udta Teer held its Monday level almost exactly, which is better than a slide, but the gap from Sunday’s ₹8.20 crore to ₹3.10 crore is the real story. It indicates that the weekend crowd has not yet converted into a broad weekday constituency.
The film has, however, moved past the domestic totals of Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story and Nayyi Navelli, giving it a place among the more resilient releases of the current frame. That is a relative achievement: the film’s commercial ambition will depend on whether it can keep screens through a second weekend.
Udta Teer is written and directed by first-time filmmaker Aakash Kaushik. The premise centres on a Pakistani spy who loses his memory during an operation and believes he is an Indian counterterrorism officer. Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover play supporting roles. The film is backed by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Adar Poonawalla, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain among the producers. Sachin-Jigar composed the music.
What to watch next
The second Friday will be the decisive marker. If Udta Teer can hold onto a meaningful share of its screens and improve its evening occupancy, it has a path to a ₹50-crore-plus global run. If it follows the pattern of front-loaded spy comedies, the first-weekend bump will remain the high-water mark. The next three days will also show whether the film’s identity-swap hook is strong enough to pull in audiences beyond opening-weekend fans of Khurrana and Khan.
