The Hollywood thriller Obsession begins its Hindi-language digital life this week with two Bollywood voices attached. The uncut Hindi and English versions will premiere on October 30 at 7 pm on a digital platform, following a theatrical run that reached Indian cinemas on May 29 this year.
Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston play the lead roles. But for Hindi viewers, the first point of recognition will be the dubbing cast: Kriti Sanon as Nikki and Varun Dhawan as Bear.
What to know
- Uncut Hindi and English versions premiere October 30 at 7 pm on a digital platform.
- Kriti Sanon voices Nikki; it is her first dubbing role for another actor.
- Varun Dhawan voices Bear and says a close viewing surfaced details he had missed.
- India theatrical gross: Rs 84.90 crore; worldwide: Rs 3,851.14 crore.
Kriti Sanon’s dubbing debut
Sanon described the story as “gripping, quirky and twisted” and said she had never played an edgy character like Nikki before. That, she added, made the experience more exciting and challenging. She said she could not have asked for a better film with which to begin lending her voice to another actor’s performance.
Varun Dhawan voices Bear
Dhawan said the Hindi version let him study the film from a different angle. “I noticed so many little details that I may have missed on a first watch,” he said, “and that made the whole experience even more interesting.” He added that audiences will be able to discover those details in the Hindi version.
A thriller with a large theatrical footprint
Obsession premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year before its India release on May 29. The horror-thriller earned Rs 84.90 crore in India and Rs 3,851.14 crore worldwide, according to the announcement. Blumhouse Productions, Capstone Studios and Tea Shop Productions produced the film.
Why the Hindi dub matters
Dubbing a Hollywood title is no longer only about access; it has become a casting and promotion decision. A familiar Bollywood voice can make a foreign film feel like a local event, especially on a crowded OTT slate. Kriti Sanon’s dubbing debut and Varun Dhawan’s close reading of the material give Indian audiences a reason to compare the Hindi and English versions rather than simply default to one.
For fans of Hindi cinema, this is a chance to hear two popular actors work in a different register—interpreting performances rather than building characters from the outside. The October 30 premiere will show whether star voices can carry a Hollywood thriller to a second life on streaming.
