Aryan Khan is turning his attention to the script stage for his next streaming project. According to a report in Variety, carried by The Times of India, the filmmaker is assembling a pool of emerging writers and deliberately looking beyond established writing circles to find fresh voices.
The stated aim is to gather ideas that can be developed into future streaming projects, with particular interest in contemporary stories that connect with younger audiences. The new series itself remains under wraps.
A more hands-on role
The report’s most consequential detail is not the search itself but the role Khan reportedly wants. He is said to be seeking close involvement in writing the upcoming project, rather than confining himself to direction and the broader creative vision. That would deepen the showrunner identity he established on his debut.
From voice booth to showrunner
Khan’s behind-the-camera resume is short but visible. In 2019, he voiced Simba in the Hindi version of The Lion King, with Shah Rukh Khan as Mufasa; reports at the time said Shah Rukh had to re-record some lines after experts noticed his voice sounded too similar to his son’s. Aryan returned as Simba in Mufasa: The Lion King in 2024, when Shah Rukh again voiced Mufasa and AbRam Khan joined the Hindi voice cast.
His directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, was set against the Hindi film industry. Aryan worked on it between 2023 and 2024 as showrunner, writer and director, and it featured Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan in cameo appearances.
What is still open
- No cast or storyline has been announced for the next series.
- No production schedule is public, so development appears to be taking shape.
- The writers’ pool is pitched as a source of future projects, not one confirmed greenlight.
For Hindi cinema readers, the development matters because streaming has leaned on familiar names. A creator using his position to build a pipeline for new writers could widen the entry points for screenwriting talent. The measure will be execution: a pool is a promise of development, not a commission. The next signal to watch is whether any writer from this initiative moves into active production. That outcome, not the initial announcement, will tell viewers how serious the writers-first approach is.
