Shweta Tripathi Takes Debut Production to TIFF After Berlin

Shweta Tripathi is building her first feature as a producer on the festival circuit, taking the queer love story from Berlin to TIFF 2026 before filming.

A first feature goes from Berlin to TIFF before filming

Shweta Tripathi is entering film production with a project that is already travelling before a single frame has been shot. Her debut production, Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, was presented at the Toronto International Film Festival 2026 after an earlier stop at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film has not yet begun shooting in India, which makes these festival appearances an early exercise in building connections rather than selling a finished film.

An early pitch for a future feature

At TIFF 2026, Tripathi’s presence was supported by the WIF India x Gold House Scholarship, which placed the project in the Gold House Pitch. The forum put it before international producers, financiers, executives and other industry professionals. The conversations centred on potential partnerships, financing and distribution.

“You begin to see the film beyond the process of making it,” Tripathi said. “It’s been a wonderful learning experience, and I’m excited about what this journey can mean for the film.”

The film and its team

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sanjoy Nag, Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan stars Tillotama Shome and Shweta Tripathi. It is a queer love story that explores love and human relationships. For now, its distribution plans and eventual reach remain to be established; the festival circuit is the project’s most visible public space.

Producing began in the theatre

Tripathi’s interest in production started before this film. In 2010 she launched AllMyTea, a theatre production company, with Cock, a queer drama by Olivier Award-winning British playwright Mike Bartlett. The production was staged again during Pride Month this year, returning her to theatre and reaffirming a long interest in queer-centred stories.

“Producing has made me look at storytelling differently,” she said. “As an actor, you are deeply involved in bringing a character and a story to life. As a producer, you also have to think about the journey the film takes once it’s made.”

What this says about Indian independent film

For independent Hindi cinema, the route is notable: an unshot feature is using international festival markets to assemble its future. This is a financing-and-distribution path built on relationships as much as a finished cut.

Key details from the story so far:

  • Project: Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, a queer love story, is yet to begin shooting in India.
  • Route: Berlin earlier this year, followed by TIFF 2026 and the Gold House Pitch.
  • Team: directed by Sanjoy Nag and starring Tillotama Shome and Shweta Tripathi.
  • Support: the WIF India x Gold House Scholarship enabled the TIFF pitch.

The next test is whether conversations in Berlin and Toronto translate into concrete financing, distribution or co-production commitments. Until then, Tripathi’s first feature is best read as an early-stage producer story: a project being assembled in public, with the festival market as its first investor meeting.
