Tum Mere Ho title song needed 175 drafts, says composer

Composer Vivek Verma on the 175 drafts behind Tum Mere Ho's title track, how it inspired the film, and the album that grew from one song.

Tum Mere Ho's title track took 175 drafts

The title song of Tum Mere Ho was not written to fit a finished film. Composer Vivek Verma says it was the other way around: the track existed first, and the film grew out of it.

A title track that became a screenplay

Verma, who is releasing his first full-fledged Bollywood album as a composer with the Gurmeet Choudhary and Isha Malviya starrer, told Bollywood Bubble that the journey began with a friend, Krishna Patel, with whom he was composing songs. When Verma met Choudhary to discuss a music video, he played several tracks. The one now called Tum Mere Ho stood out.

Choudhary asked to reserve the song and, days later, returned with director Ashish Panda. The plan had shifted. As Verma recalled, the decision was to build an entire film around the track. That reverse process is rare in Hindi cinema, where songs are usually written after the story has been locked.

175 drafts

The version Choudhary first heard was not the one audiences will hear in theatres. “The original version was really different,” Verma said. “It took me 175 drafts to complete the track and make it what it is today.”

Vaibhav Pani produced the three tracks Verma composed for the film. Verma wrote five songs during development; three were locked into the film as the story evolved. Mithoon, Arjuna Harjai and Uddipan Sharma also contributed to the eight-song album.

  • The title song existed before the film and inspired the script.
  • Verma worked through 175 drafts to arrive at the released version.
  • Three of his five compositions made the final eight-song album.

Why the process matters

A film built around a song inverts the usual workflow. Verma acknowledged that such risks are uncommon, crediting Choudhary’s willingness to develop a story from the track. The composer said the album was shaped as the screenplay took form, with music and narrative adjusting to each other.

Verma also described the shift from audio production work on films such as Sanam Teri Kasam and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo to a credited composing role as overwhelming. A pre-release jam session at Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee’s home brought the music team together before release.

What to watch for

Tum Mere Ho, produced by Aarti S and Debina Bonnerjee and co-produced by Romanch Mehta and Aman Riyastee, releases in theatres on October 23, 2026. The cast also includes Anushkaa Luhar and Shaan Grover. For listeners, the title track is now the clearest entry point: the song carries the origin of the entire film.
