Party Animals: a New Year's Eve comedy arrives November 20

Yoodlee Films has announced Party Animals, an upcoming Hindi comedy built around a New Year’s Eve in Mumbai that goes very wrong. The film, led by Viraj Ghelani and Arjun Tanwar, will open in cinemas on November 20, 2026.

The project sets up two childhood friends, Mann Patel (Ghelani) and Armaan Khanna (Tanwar), whose lives have moved in different directions. Their reunion begins a chain of romantic complications, small arguments that turn into full-blown “raadas,” and attempts to fix problems that only create larger ones. The official synopsis promises a party bus, cops, goons and a drunk horse in a night that spirals beyond control.

What the film is promising

Ghelani called the film a “full-on masti film” and emphasised its escalating madness and relatability. Producer Siddharth Anand Kumar, who is backing the film with Vikram Mehra under the Yoodlee Films banner, said the comedy is “unapologetically chaotic, irreverent and very much in on the joke.” The producers also framed the writing as deliberately self-aware: the worse the characters’ decisions get, the more the film enjoys itself.

The comedy lineage

The makers cite Hollywood buddy comedies The Hangover, Superbad and 21 Jump Street as reference points. That places Party Animals in the one-crazy-night tradition: a small group, a fixed deadline, and consequences that escalate through bad judgment. The Indian adaptation will live or die on whether the chaos feels culturally specific rather than borrowed. A Mumbai New Year’s Eve, with its particular mix of traffic, street life and late-night excess, gives the film room to localise the template.

The official description also names FOMO, growing up and the poor decisions of adult freedom as themes. That positions the chaos not merely as spectacle but as an outgrowth of two friends who have drifted apart and now have something to prove to each other. The ensemble, which includes Manoj Joshi, Kamlesh Sawant and Anil Charanjeett, suggests the comedy will lean on experienced character actors as well as the leads.

For Hindi cinema watchers, the title is another test of whether mid-sized comedies can still find theatrical audiences. Party Animals arrives with a young digital-native lead in Ghelani, an ensemble of familiar character actors, and a premise designed for social-media-friendly moments. The question is whether the film can sustain the joke for a full feature, and whether an audience raised on short-form comedy turns up for a big-screen version.
