Vivek Oberoi is the newest addition to the mega-budget cinematic retelling of Ramayana, joining the mythological epic as Vidyutjihva — the daitya prince and husband of Surpanakha. Oberoi’s character, known for his dark complexity and dramatic narrative arc, is set to add fresh tension to the unfolding saga led by Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi.
Contrary to circulating rumors, sources close to the production have clarified that neither Anil Kapoor nor Vikrant Massey are involved in the film. Reports of them playing King Janaka and Meghnad have been denied, putting speculation to rest.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and backed by a staggering budget of over ₹835 crore (USD 1 billion) for just the first installment, Ramayana is shaping up to be India’s most ambitious cinematic project. With Ranbir as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, the film is being shot as a two-part saga and aims for a global theatrical release on Diwali 2026 and 2027. Talks with Warner Bros. Pictures for international distribution are also underway, setting the stage for Ramayana to become India’s biggest mythological export.
