‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’: Ajay Devgn To Portray The Character Of Karim Lala

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie Gangubai Kathiawadi has been the most awaiting movie of the year. The Alia Bhatt starring movie has been the talk of the town ever since it was announced. The film is based on writer Hussain Zaidi’s book The Mafia Queens Of Mumbai and it reveals the life of Mumbai-based brothel owner Gangubai Kathiawadi. A lawsuit was been filed by Babuji Shah who claims to be the adopted son of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’.  A Bombay civil court has dismissed the restraining order against Alia, Bhansali, and Hussain Zaidi. Bhansali had filed a notice of motion on behalf of his production house and Alia Bhatt as he sought rejection of the lawsuit. Bhansali filed the notice on the grounds that the suit is barred by limitation since the novel was published in the year  2011 and the suit was filed only in December 2020. During the hearing, Bhansali’s legal team claimed that Babuji Shah has failed to produce any proof to prove his connection with Gangubai following which he doesn’t have any locus stand to file the lawsuit against Gangubai Kathiawadi suit.

As per the reports, the shooting of Alia Bhatt’s movie, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ will start by the end of this month. Along with Alia Bhatt, the Singham actor, Ajay Devgn will also be filming for the movie. He will be seen portraying the character of Karim Lala. A source said, “Ajay will start filming from February-end and has allocated 10-12 days for the shoot. He will squeeze in Gangubai’s schedule amidst Maidaan’s ongoing shoot. Amit will continue filming with other actors while Ajay will be busy with Gangubai Kathiawadi. At present a set of his character’s house is being created in a Mumbai studio. The sequences will feature him and Alia both.”

Ajay Devgn revealed about his last year 2020 experience “I don’t know what to call 2020. You can call it eventful or you can call it uneventful. By the time we adjusted to the lens through which to look at the pandemic, our viewpoints changed. Through the year, I had many reasons to be happy. For example, January gave me Tanhaji, December gave me MayDay (my next directorial). In between, like the global fraternity, I had moments of anxiety and frustration. Work came to a stand through the months of April to October. My family life was disrupted. My daughter, Nysa studies in Singapore so she is away from me. Kajol is with her. My son Yug and I are together with my mother. It was a complete mix of emotions.”

Talking about his last movie release, he further says, “I’m ecstatic with the box office of our film. No, I wasn’t expecting it to break records. It is my 100th film. In a career spanning 29 years, I have seen so many highs and lows, accolades and brickbats, that I never go into a film thinking it will break records or that it will become a blockbuster. I’m a seasoned player. I do a film because I believe in it. The box office or the bounty that comes is a blessing from my fans, the audience, my parents and the Almighty.”
