    Allahabad High Court stays arrest of Mirzapur producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani

    The Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed the arrest of producers of the Amazon Prime Video web series Mirzapur. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment were named in an FIR alleging inappropriate and indecent depiction of the city of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh and an insult to religious beliefs.

    A division bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Gupta and Subhash Chand directed the producers to give full cooperation in the investigation. The bench was hearing a writ petition filed by Akhtar and Sidhwani. The court issued notice to the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the complainant seeking an answer.

    “With regard to the facts and submissions of the case, no concrete action will be taken against the petitioners till the next date of listing or submission of police report under Section 173 (2) CRPC, whichever is earlier. FIR was filed. However, the petitioners will offer full cooperation in the investigation, “the court said.

    A case under sections 295-A, 504, 505 and 34 of IPC and 67-A of IT-A was registered against the producers at Kotwali Dehat police station in Mirjapur district.

    Mirzapur There is currently a two-part series on Amazon Prime Video. The series tells the story of a dark world of guns, drugs and lawlessness.
