Kolkata Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday confirmed that the annual Kolkata International Film Festival would be considered as an epidemic. He also confirmed that actor Shah Rukh Khan would virtually attend the opening ceremony. The superstar also attended the opening ceremony in 2019.
The Chief Minister took to Twitter to make the announcement. “Together we will overcome this epidemic. But the show must move forward. We are moving forward on a smaller scale with #KIFF 2021. Glad my brother @ Yorkrk will be attending the opening ceremony on January 8 at 4 pm. Watch the Kolkata International Film Festival live, ”CM tweeted.

The 26th Kolkata International Film Festival was scheduled to be held from 5–12 November 2020. However, due to the epidemic it had to be postponed. The festival will now take place from 8–15 January 2021. The KIFF committee has selected 132 feature films, documentaries and short films to be screened at the festival.
